Alabama High School Football Huddle
It wasn't a perfect game for Hueytown, but in the end, the Gophers did enough right to beat defending Class 4A state champ Thomasville 36-27 in the al.com Champions Challenge at the Cramton Bowl in Montgomery to kick-off the 2011 high school football season.
Hueytown quarterback Jameis Winston, a Florida State verbal commitment, rushed for 117 yards and four touchdowns in the victory. Winston had a rough night throwing the ball though. He completed just 10 of 21 passes for 138 yards with three interceptions.
