Hoover Snaps Prattville's Streak of Three Straight Alabama High School Football Championships

Hoover beat Prattville 28-23 Friday to snap the Lions streak of three straight Alabama 6A high school football championships and 54-game in-state win streak. The win gives Hoover its 8th overall state title.

The Birmingham News reports that the Bucs almost blew an 18 point lead.

Cherokee County Captures First Alabama High School Football Title

Cherokee County beat Jackson 31-27 Friday to win Alabama's 4A high school football title. The Birmingham News reports that Cherokee County won its first state championship with a great drive in the final minutes of the game at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Reeltown Captures Alabama 2A Title

For the first time since 2001, Reeltown is an Alabama state football champion. Friday, the Rebels beat Clay County 16-8 to capture the state's 2A championship.

The Birmingham News reports that Reeltown won the title by scoring 16 second half points after being shutout in the first half for the first time this year.

Demopolis Runs to Alabama 5A High School Football Championship

Demopolis running back DaMarcus James closed out an awesome 2009 post-season with a Alabama 5A championship game record 293 yards rushing to lead his team to a 27-14 win over Russellville on Thursday.

In five post-season games James rushed for 1,238 yards to finish the season with 2,529 yards. The Birmingham News reports that James' efforst was just 13 yards short of an overall Super Six record for all classes.

Piedmont Denies Cordova Again in Alabama 3A Championship Game

For the second straight year, Cordova has been denied Alabama gold in the state's 3A championship game.

Thursday Piedmont beat the Blue Devils 35-28 in overtime for the 2009 state championship. After win the title in 2007, Cordova has now lost back-to-back championship games.

The Birmingham News reports that Cordova fought back from a 14 point deficit before losing in overtime.

Brantley Nabs Alabama 1A Crown

Brantley returned to the winner's circle for the first time this decade with a 28-13 win over Hackleburg Thursday to capture the 2009 Alabama 1A high school football championship.

The Birmingham News reports that Brantley was let my quarterback Chase Hall, who was named the game's MVP, with 205 yards of total offense and all four scores.

The title is Brantley's third overall (1993 & 1998), but first this decade.
