Alabama High School Football Huddle

Briarwood Christian's Fred Yancey will be the head coach of the Alabama team in this year's Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic on December 11th in Mobile.
Yancey, who's owns a lifetime record of 211-77-1 and three state championships, will also lead an all-star coaching staff that will include three coaches (Tripp Curry - Cherokee County; Tom Causey - Demopolis; David Lowery - Brantley) that won state titles last year. Other head coaches named as assistants for the 24th annual battle are: Alvin Briggs - Florence High; Chris Fancher - Gardendale and Al Pogue of Carver-Montgomery.
“I am thankful for the opportunity to be considered for this job,” said Yancey in a news release from the Classic's website. “I have coached in the game twice (as an assistant in 1999 and 2004) and I know what an exciting and memorable experience this is for the coaches and players. We have a tremendous staff that is representative of our entire state. I am looking forward to this. To be picked to coach in this game is a highlight of a season, and to be picked as head coach is a highlight of a career.”
Alabama holds a 16-7 edge in the series, winning two in a row, plus 10 of the last 12 games.
